    What is a Giclee?

Simply put, a giclee is a fine art print created by using a specialized high resolution inkjet printer. A giclee an “art print” but giclee prints stand apart from normal art prints with their extremely high level of quality, longevity and value compared to a standard print. Pronounced “zhee-clay,” the word giclee is French for “to spray.” These are made to last, gallery-quality prints.

This literal interpretation of the word defines what the art of giclee printing is: reproducing art through a printer to exactly resemble an original piece.

I wish I had a deep meaning behind my painting of Sam from the film Trick 'r Treat other than he is one of my favourite movies characters. I find him just adorable and really wanted to challenge myself to paint him, in watercolour. The texture of the burlap he wears on his head made for a very tedious and time-consuming painting. Sam reminds me of my childhood scarecrow Ben, who my mom made for our outside patio when I was a young kid. Ben has been proudly displayed for 30 years infront of my parents' home. I can easily close my eyes and feel the texture of the burlap she used and wanted that feeling to be represented in Sam. He is one of my personal favourites, and one of the most technically difficult paintings I've ever done.

The original was painted on 9"x9" piece of Arches' acid free, hot-pressed watercolour paper in Qor watercolours. The original was painted using only archiveable, gallery quality materials and was sealed with cold wax medium.
