about kate
Life has been full of twists and turns for Kate Weichman. Growing up in Toronto, Canada, she discovered her love for art at an early age through the show “Art Attack”. She fell in love with the ability to create.
After years of spending summers painting while sitting on the rocks of the island cottage, she dreamed to take that life with her. Kate always had one constant, her art bag. Her skill for painting helped her through her medical issues.
Kate's love for the water runs deep within her family. Being a 5th generation sailor, her love for it is in her blood. When Blue Eden came into her life, she found herself standing in front of the boat of her dreams, and she bought it. Her mom and dad were her main support after she had an incredibly rough start to her first year of sailing. Shortly after Kate bought the boat, she had a bad break-up which resulted in being alone onboard as Captain. With her parent's support and encouragement, Kate managed to pick up the pieces and regain her life aboard the ship. She had to fight through each one of her challenges, conquering her own fear and started making changes to the boat. During that winter, Kate made a promise to herself and the boat to see this through. Her drive pushed Kate over the edge and she buckled down and started fixing things. She often thought of one of her family’s sayings, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”. When not working on the ship, she can be found painting. Kate creates all of her artwork now onboard Blue Eden.
